Come on thunder

Sometimes (Lester Piggott)

There's a storm outside and the gap
between crack and thunder
crack and thunder
is closing in, is closing in
The rain floods gutters
and makes a great sound on concrete
On a flat roof there's a boy leaning
against a wall of rain
aerial held high,
calling
"come on thunder, come on thunder"

sometimes, when I look deep in your eyes, I swear I can see your soul
sometimes, when I look deep in your eyes, I swear I can see your soul

it's a monsoon, the rain lifts lids
off cars spinning busses like toys
stripping them to chrome
Across the bay the waves are turning
into something else, Picking up fishing
boats and spitting them on the shore
The boy's hit, lit up against the sky
like a sign, like a neon sign
Then he drops, cut strings, legs twitching
into the gutter
the flood swells
his clothes and delivers him on
delivers him on

sometimes, when I look deep in your eyes, I swear I can see your soul
sometimes, when I look deep in your eyes, I swear I can see your soul

There's four new colours in the rainbow
an old man takes polaroids
but all he captures is endless rain
endless rain, endless rain
He says listen, takes my head
puts my ear to his
and I swear I can hear the sea.

sometimes, when I look deep in your eyes, I swear I can see your soul
sometimes, when I look deep in your eyes, I can see your soul
sometimes, when I look deep in your eyes, I can reach your soul
sometimes, when I look deep in your eyes, I can touch your soul
(sometimes) I can reach your soul
(sometimes) I can touch your soul

ok, so i just say the wrens

and you say "how high"
i saw them today at sea level records, and they were (do you ever feel that there aren't enough superlatives in the world? and those that we do have all sound trite?) slammyfigbanggeerock.

So go see them when they come to your town.
Mr. SourBOB, this especially means you, as they're playing in chi-town on march 12th with the Constantines.

For LA folks sans day jobs, they're playing another free show friday at noon at UCLA.

Don't fuck with Big Black Holes.

I don't like my own words right now.

I Write The B-Sides

I write the B-sides
that make a small portion of the world cry
I like the seaside
and singing songs that make you not wanna die
throw a stone into the sea
and wait for it to come back to me
better get out on the boat
'cause someone told me that stones don't float

I like to sit out back
and look up at the squirrels in the trees
they don't like radio tracks
and they don't ever talk down to me
throw a nut up in the tree
gonna fall right back on me
these guys know who they are
and what they need's in their own backyard

I like to play in snow
I stick my hand in, now where did it go
it might be mighty cold
but that's all part of not doing what you're told

I'll Be Your Mirror

reflect what you are, in case you don't know
I'll be the wind, the rain and the sunset
The light on your door to show that you're home

When you think the night has seen your mind
and inside you're twisted and unkind,
let me stand to show that you are blind

Please put down your hands
'cause I see you

I find it hard to believe you don't know
the beauty you are
but if you don't, let me be your eyes
a hand in your darkness, so you won't be afraid

When you think the night has seen your mind
that inside you're twisted and unkind
let me stand to show that you are blind

Please put down your hands
'cause I see you

I'll be your mirror
